Past, Present and Future

For this Unit we will be creating a post card based using photoshop on a event which happend either in Past,Present or Future. I have decided to chose the years between 1939-1945 when Concentration Camps and Ghetto happened in Poland (World War ||)  6 years before the war (1933)the Germans have created a prison which they called the concentration camp, the first prisoners where German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Roma (Gypsies), Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, and persons accused of "asocial" or socially deviant behavior.Nazi Germany established about 20,000 camps to imprison its many millions of victims, not all of them were prisons though, many of them were used as killing centers built primarily or exclusively for mass murder.

I did not only wanted to focus on the Concentration camps but also on Ghetto based in Warsaw since it was the largest one, After the Nazis invasion in 1939. the Warsow Ghetto was the largest of all the Jewish ghettos in Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II, More than 350,000 Jews were captured and placed in that place, which was almost 30% of the city population. In the early years of Ghetto the German soldiers came up with a game which was supposed to keep themselfs busy, the Nazis would throw food in the middle of the streets and watch all the hungry Jewish children run there to get it, at that moment the Nazis would shoot them and the one who shot the most was the winner, they reffered to the Jewish children as "little rats" which gave me an idea for this project.

During today's class we have been experimenting and learning how to use photoshop, our task was to edit the backround for a picture of stones to make it more intersting, by that we learned how to use certian tools on photoshop such as the earser, layer settings or even how to paste different picures onto each other.

The teacher suggesting  adding pictures of our choice and photoshopping them into the image of stones in order for us to have more practise.

I decided to bring my favourite animated show " Adventure time" into the reality, i simply found a picture of a person cosplaying the main character "Fionna the human" and a picture of a cat sleeping on the grass which is supposed to represent another character called "Cake". I also added 2 pictures at the back that shows their tree house and the Ice kingdom. I really like what i created although if I had more time during the lesson I would of added more things.

Photoshop Progress

For this project I came up with an idea to make hitler look obese as a represantation of him being selfish. During the war Hitler had everything, food, clean water, a roof above his head and clean clothes whilelist he was making other people's life's a misery across the world. He was full of pride and had disgusting views on how the society must look like, that is why I decided that a picture of an old man covered in dirt would be perfect  to combine with Hitlers face.

I found a really rare picture of Hitler in colour, I cropped it our by using the select tool, copying and then pasting it into the picture of the fat man, i then used Quick Select Tool to get rid of Hitlers body and leave just the head. I found a Nazi badge and placed it on his arm, then I noticed the the man is wearing red and white patterned shorts and that doesn't suit Hitler much so i changed it into black by using a simple Brush Tool.

I obviously couldn't leave Hitler sitting on the beach so I have found an image on google of a dark room with the light in the middle, Once again i used the Select Tool to copy and paste Hitler into another image. I had to adjust the lighting, the hue and saturation to make hitlers head look mathcing to the fat mans body and skin tone. I made his skin look lighter from the side where the light bulb is and I used the brush tool to create the shadow on the other side of his head. When i selcted the Brush tool I had to keep in mind to change the Opacity of the paint so his face won't look too dark, this task took me at least 15 minutes because I did not only paint his face but I had to make sure it fades in nicely with his skin tone, for this task I used the Blur and Smuge Tool.

Since the Nazi's used to call the Jewish children "little rats" I literally turned them into rats and made them wear little uniforms that poeple used to wear in the Concentration camps.

Final Outcome

When I was done with editing the rats and making them look like they're being kept in plastic cages I went on google to search for traditional German food to put into my work, I have found a few images that represent Germany really well, food such as; Beer, Meat and greasy vegetablets. I have placed everything near Hitler to cover up the mistakes i made when i was cropping out his body and I think that went well.

I realised that I didn't quite like the colours of the image, I believe it looked too happy and bright , so I done small research and found a filter that looks like the balck and white images were turned into colour giving them a pale shade and dark theme. I used the hue and saturation tool to darken the picture.

At this stage I felt that I was done with my work but then someone gave me a suggestion to  move the backround and the light bulb slightly into the site so its not in the centre of the image, It also makes the lighting of the picture look right.

Overall I am proud and happy of my this piece of work that I produced since I only used photoshop twice before this project. If i had more time I would probably create another picture but with a different conspet and maybe even a different time in the past.

GREEN SCREEN EXERCISE

Today our teacher taught us how to use the green screen by using photoshop.

It's simple, while shooting a video or taking a picture with a green backround you are able to edit that and change the backround , its simple to turn anything or anyone into whatever you like.

We use colour green because it is oppsite to any skin colour, some people also like to refeer to green screen as "colour keying". Colour keying is baisycally using a certian software to make the value transparent  which allows another image to be seen and used in the affected areas. In photoshop we selected the area and used colour range to get rid of the green backround. Green screens are helpful when there are a lot of details in the picture for example hair, you are able to edit that picture without cropping out a few details by accident

 Experimenting with                    Green screen

In the morning we set up a green screen and took pictures of each other so we could edit them later and practise using the green screen and get more skilled at it. I used a picture of my self and pictures of my friends and turned them into looking like mythical creatours from legends. This task taught me a lot about colours, filters and how to use Colour Keying. it was a fun exercise.

David Hockney

research & reference

David Hockney is an English painter and a photographer mostly know for his

amazing collages. In the late sixties many people used to take pictures with wide-angle lenses but David did not like such things  because he believed that pictures would always come out somehow distorted. He began making his colleges without actually planning to use them in the future but just as references for his paintings, he often took palaroids of places and then montaged them together in the composition of their own, he finally realised that he created narrative and started working more on those kind of collages.  I like his work because I've never really seen anything like it, It's unique.

MOODBOARD. THOUGHTS.

 IDEAS.

Before I decided on making a postcard about Hitler and Jews I was Considering  other ideas in mind, such as WW2 in London and how poeple would use Underground stations and shelters, women in 1960's protesting about wanitng to wear their mini skirts everywhere or even the incident that happened in Chernobyl that caused many poeples and animals bodies get mutated. Even though all of these point in history would make a interesting postcard I decided to stick with my idea of Concertration Camps because one of the biggest Camps during war was placed in my Country ( Poland) and I wanted to do something that would be linked to my nationality.

The task was to create a stop motion animation in which we used a wooden figure, a paper swan and a camera. Taking pictures was quite a challenge, after we done that we had to resize all the pictures on photoshop and then bring them into flash.
